Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT®)

ATMAT® is founded based on an ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage that was handed down by mesoamerican healers, medicine man or “shaman” and midwives for hundreds of years. ATMAT® consist of deep, non-invasive, nurturing massage techniques applied to the abdomen, back and sacrum. These external techniques help guide and repositions the pelvic and abdominal organs that may have shifted due to trauma, disease, heavy physcial activity or general repetitive strain on the body that can lead to restriction in the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and “chi” in the body. By bringing these organs back to its optimal position we are promoting improved organ function and overall health and wellness throughout the life cycle of women, men and children.

ORIGINS OF ATMAT®

IxChel, Maya Goddess of Healing

Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN, is a naprapathic physician and master herbalist who has lived and studied with traditional healers in Central America for more than 30 years. She apprenticed with the renowned Maya Shaman Don Eljio Panti for 10 years until his passing in 1996 at the age of 103. Dr. Arvigo also learned traditional pregnancy care from Miss Hortence Robinson, a well-known herbal midwife in Belize.

She combined her knowledge of anatomy, physiology and naprapathy (study of muscles, ligaments, connective tisues) with her extensive acquired background in traditional healing methods, and formulated the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®. Dr. Arvigo established the Arvigo Institute in 2000 and trains healthcare professionals worldwide.
